“Only photograph what you love.” – Tim Walker

Whether you're into architecture, sports, wildlife or landscapes, Toronto offers a wide range of places for photographers to capture that perfect shot. With over 30 different venues and places around Toronto, there is a spot for everyone, no matter your preference. Over the years, I've spent a lot of time travelling to new places in search of new photo spots. I've compiled a list my 4 favourite places and spots to shoot landscapes, cityscapes and nature in Toronto. In addition, I've included a list of 4 rare and interesting spots I've found in and around Toronto.

Top 4 favourite places:

  • Lakefront Promenade Park - Lakefront Promenade Park is located in Mississauga, and despite the name, Lakefront Promenade is more than just a park. It has a marina, trails for bike riding, a baseball field, and several places to see the ocean. A lot of my photos under the landscapes section, were taken at Lakefront Promenade Park both during the summer and the fall. It is one of my favourite places to shoot both landscapes and portraits because the place is never too busy and the lighting is always just right. I highly recommend this place for anyone who either wants a place to relax, have fun, spend some time outdoors, and take beautiful photos.

  • Port Credit - Port Credit is located in Mississauga and much like Lakefront Promenade Park, it is a beautiful area to see both during the summer and the fall. The lighthouse is the town's most famous structure, as well as the most photographed. Not only is Port Credit known for their lighthouse, but their harbour, walking trails and forests and restaurants. The entire town of Port Credit is a great place for photographers to be, as there are many spots to take amazing photos, whether it's during the day or the night.

  • King City - King City is a quaint small town located just outside of Vaughan. It houses about 8,000 people and the landscapes are absolutely breathtaking. King City has a lot of farmland and country areas, and during the fall the colours of the leaves are very vibrant. There are certain spots within King City that is the perfect for watching the sunset. Because the landscape of King City is very open and untouched, the sunsets are incredibly bright, vivid and fill the entire sky. On certain nights, the stars and moon can be visible from different spots and due to the lack of light from the city they can be seen very clearly. I recommend visiting King City during the fall, as the town, landscape, colours and sceneries will leave you breathless and wanting to come back.

  • Humber Arboretum - Located behind Humber College's North Campus, the Humber Arboretum is a smaller place than most of the listed venues, however, it is still a beautiful place to take photos. During the summertime, all the flowers are in bloom, the trees are full of leaves and bright green, and the sun is high and bright in the sky creating incredible lighting and shadows. I especially love taking portraits there, because the lighting is always incredible and the colours from everything in bloom adds to the essence of the portrait. The Humber Arboretum is a place that can be enjoyed during all four seasons, no matter the weather.

Top 4 interesting & rare places/spots:

  • Grange Park - Grange Park is located in the heart of downtown Toronto. Situated behind OCAD University and near the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), Grange Park has beautiful architecture and provides a different view and angle of the CN Tower (as shown above). Grange Park not only has a playground, but it also has a dog park, a water fountain and amazing statues and artwork. There are a lot of trees and shady areas which make for incredible portrait backgrounds and it is especially beautiful during the fall as all the colours create a canopy of vibrant colours that look great against the blue sky. In addition, Grange Park has a lookout point that you can access by climbing a flight of stairs. From the lookout point, you can see a different view and angle of Toronto, that isn't usually seen. Grange Park has remarkable views of Toronto and is definitely a must see spot for both portrait and landscape photographers.

  • Mill Pond Park - Mill Pond Park is a park located in Richmond Hill that individuals can go to do a bunch of different things. Mill Pond Park has boardwalks, a gazebo, a playground, several walking trails that lead into forests and a large pond with a fountain in the middle. Mill Pond Park is filled with several types of flowers and insects and is a fantastic place for photographers that want to start with nature and landscape photos. I recommend going during the summer as the experience will be much better because everything is in bloom and there will be more opportunities to take great photos.

  • Rattray Marsh Conservation Area - Rattray Marsh Conservation Area is a large nature preserve that is located in Mississauga along Lake Ontario. There are many different things that people can do here. Whether it's hiking, dog walking, birdwatching, or photography, there is something available to everyone. One thing I really love about this place is that it takes you on different trails and you get to see various parts of the preserve. In addition, if you keep walking there will come a point where you reach a beach and from this beach, you can see the Toronto skyline. There are a lot of hidden gems within Rattray Marsh but once you find them it will all be worth it. It is a great place for landscape/nature photographers to be and you are guaranteed to leave with fantastic photos!

  • Graffiti Alley - Graffiti Alley is located near Kensington Market in Downtown Toronto. While this is one of the more popular destinations for photographers, there are I still think it should be added onto this list, as it is one of the most fun, colourful, creative and artistic places in Toronto. Graffiti Alley has over 50 murals and goes on for about 3 blocks. This is an ideal spot for photographers to take great photos of both people and the art. It is a must see attraction and can be viewed during all seasons and weather, however, it is best during the summer, spring and fall.
